Job Description

Senior KDD+ Developer

Contract - OUTSIDE IR35

6 months +

Location: ad hoc into London

Rate: DoE, outside IR35

We’re looking for an experienced Senior kdb+ Engineer to join a fast-paced, high-performance technology environment, working on data-intensive financial systems.

This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone with deep expertise in kdb+, q, and time-series data, alongside strong experience designing and scaling production systems.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for delivering high-performance, scalable solutions across complex financial data environments. You will:

  • Lead technical delivery across projects, setting high standards for quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Design and implement robust kdb+ architectures capable of handling billions of rows of time-series data.
  • Develop high-performance q code and optimise systems for scalability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with quants, traders, analysts, and technical stakeholders to translate business requirements into efficient technical solutions.
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level developers, helping to drive technical excellence.
  • Own the full development lifecycle, including development, testing, deployment, support, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation, keeping up to date with developments across kdb+, q, and related technologies.

What We’re Looking For

  • Hands on experience with kdb+ development experience, with deep expertise in q and time-series data.
  • Proven experience designing kdb+ architectures and scaling kdb+ systems in production.
  • Strong experience working in Unix/Linux environments and with scripting.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and strong decision-making in fast-paced projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience within capital markets or investment banking, with a strong understanding of the domain and its demands.
  • A passion for writing clean, performant, maintainable code and continuously improving systems and processes.
