Senior C++ Software Engineer
Up to £875 per day | Inside IR35

We're looking for a highly experienced Senior Software Engineering Practitioner to make a real impact within a leading financial services environment.
This is an opportunity to work directly alongside established engineering teams, shaping how software is built, tested and delivered. Rather than simply advising from the sidelines, you'll be embedded in live engineering squads, setting the standard through hands-on development, technical leadership and practical coaching.
You'll play a key role in modernising existing systems, raising engineering standards and helping teams adopt more effective ways of working, leaving behind lasting improvements in both code quality and engineering capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Embed within priority engineering squads, driving improvements through hands-on development and live delivery.
- Champion modern engineering practices across refactoring, unit testing, code quality and maintainability.
- Drive the incremental modernisation of legacy systems while maintaining business-critical operations.
- Lead pair and mob programming sessions, sharing knowledge and developing engineering capability.
- Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt, streamline workflows and improve development efficiency.
- Collaborate with Engineering Leads and senior stakeholders to tackle complex engineering challenges.
- Establish reusable coding standards, patterns and best practices that can be adopted across teams.
- Demonstrate measurable improvements through test coverage, code quality and engineering standards.
Key Requirements
- Extensive commercial software engineering experience with a strong hands-on development background.
- Excellent C++ development skills, with the ability to work across other enterprise languages.
- Proven experience modernising and improving legacy systems.
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including refactoring, automated testing, code quality and peer reviews.
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers through practical, hands-on delivery.
- Strong Git and CI/CD experience.
- Previous experience working within Financial Services.
- Exposure to real-time, event-driven, high-volume or resilience-critical systems is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted software engineering workflows would be an advantage.
