Job Description

This contract role focuses on the end-to-end quality assurance, testing, and production release of Google Cloud Platform components within a hybrid cloud environment. You will work primarily with GCP as the main deployment target while operating AWS-hosted release tooling, ensuring that cloud-native applications are released in a reliable, controlled, and well-documented manner. The position suits a technically hands-on professional who is quality-focused, comfortable working across GCP, AWS, and Kubernetes, and able to contribute effectively with minimal onboarding.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the end-to-end release lifecycle for GCP components, from creation of release candidates through to production deployment.
  • Enforce quality assurance gates across the delivery pipeline, ensuring only thoroughly tested changes progress to production.
  • Plan, execute, and coordinate functional, regression, integration, and smoke testing for cloud-native applications.
  • Operate and maintain AWS-based release tooling, including management of artefact promotion and cross-cloud deployment flows.
  • Manage Kubernetes deployments on GKE, including rolling deployments, configuration changes, and environment updates.
  • Perform post-release validation to confirm application and platform health, including readiness for rollback where required.
  • Troubleshoot issues at cluster level, using kubectl and other tools to diagnose and resolve deployment and runtime problems.
  • Apply structured release management practices aligned with ITIL change governance, ensuring controlled and auditable releases.
  • Engineer and maintain CI/CD pipelines that support reliable and repeatable deployments across environments.
  • Use scripting in Python or Bash to automate release, testing, and operational tasks where possible.
  • Manage AWS cross-account IAM and artefact management processes required to support the hybrid release tooling.
  • Provide clear and timely release status reporting to engineering leads and programme stakeholders.
  • Create, maintain, and improve runbooks, deployment checklists, and post-release documentation to support consistent operations.

Essential Skills

  • Proven hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including GKE, Cloud Build, and Artifact Registry.
  • Strong proficiency with Kubernetes, including use of kubectl, management of rolling deployments, and cluster-level troubleshooting.
  • Practical experience operating AWS-based tooling, including cross-account IAM and artefact management.
  • Demonstrable background in structured release management with ITIL-aligned change governance.
  • experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for cloud-native applications.
  • Strong quality assurance mindset with experience in functional, regression, integration, and smoke testing.
  • Scripting skills in Python or Bash to automate and streamline release and operational workflows.
  • Ability to work independently in a technically complex, hybrid cloud environment with minimal onboarding.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • GCP certification such as Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect.
  • experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with Argo CD for GitOps-based deployment workflows.
  • experience with Prometheus and Grafana for post-release observability and monitoring.
  • Understanding of best practices for cloud-native architecture and operations across GCP and AWS.
