Job Description

Financial Crime Team Leader

We’re looking for individuals with a blend of experience in preventing financial crime and team leadership to join our Financial Crime Operations team as a Team Leader (we call them ‘Squad Captains’ here).

Your team will consist of around 11 Financial Crime Investigators, and could be focused on a number of different tasks - including liaising with law enforcement, responding to financial crime enquiries from other banks, screening customer applications, conducting transaction monitoring, and writing suspicious activity reports.

As a Squad Captain, you will be responsible for managing the personal and professional development of your team members, providing technical coaching on financial crime tasks, driving exceptional individual and collective performance, guiding individuals through hard times, and celebrating their successes.

You’ll hold weekly meetings with your team members (both individually and together as a squad) to ensure everyone is informed, engaged, and performing at work. You’ll also be responsible for aggregating the feedback that your team provides in these meetings and feeding it into operational leadership to ensure we continue to improve on our processes and tooling.

Squad Captains are also heavily involved in our hiring processes, and regularly act as interviewers - so you’ll have the opportunity to help shape the team as it continues to grow.

Every day, you’ll spend your time

  • Managing the personal & professional development of 11 financial crime investigators.
  • Providing technical coaching, feedback, and support to your team on financial crime tasks.
  • Chatting about individual and team performance, and driving improvement.
  • Monitoring and improving service levels for the work completed by your team.
  • Communicating business change, while ensuring your team remains fully engaged.
  • Contributing to the construction and maintenance of a strong control environment by minimising avoidable breaches and risk events.
  • Aggregating feedback from your team and supporting the implementation of any related changes.

You should apply if

  • You consider yourself a subject matter expert in operational financial crime, and have significant experience in anti-money laundering, screening, or law enforcement engagement.
  • You have substantial leadership experience (this doesn’t have to have been in a financial crime environment).
  • You have a good understanding of current financial crime trends and typologies.
  • You have experience managing employee relations cases.
  • You have an empathetic and supportive approach to people management.
  • You are great at prioritising problems and assessing risk in an operations environment.
  • You can accurately interpret and represent complex management information.
  • You’re a clear and inspiring communicator.

Salary and Benefits ????

  • Salary varies between £30,500 and £36,500, depending on previous experience.
  • Monzo share options.
  • Full remote working.
  • A MacBook and a budget to pay for home working equipment.
  • A £1,000 annual learning budget.
  • 32 days of annual holiday (inclusive of bank holidays).
  • Pension.
  • Private healthcare and family policies.
  • A bunch of social, community, and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Interview Process:

The interview process will consist of an initial call with the hiring team, followed by a set of face-to-face interviews (conducted remotely).
