Job Description

Exhaust Code Developer Overview of ResponsibilitiesThe salary for this role is £48,290 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance) . Onsite working is expected for 3 days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working. This role can be based at any of the following sites: Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Role

As Exhaust Code Developer, you will play a pivotal role in developing edge modelling code(s) which interface with integrated modelling tools, such as JINTRAC integrated transport modelling framework.

Through integrated modelling, the post holder may study plasma exhaust in existing and future tokamaks, such as JET, MAST-U, ITER, JT-60SA, and STEP. You will also propose, and/or integrate improved models through internal and international collaborations and execute, and analyse tokamak experiments in these areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributing to and guiding the development of edge modelling codes.
  • Optimising code algorithms for modern computers (HPC).
  • Developing interface with plasma core codes and working with UKAEA developers.
  • Performing core-edge coupled simulations and analysing the results.
  • Giving presentations to demonstrate new algorithms and features to modellers at UKAEA.
  • Exploiting tools for edge modelling and/or coupled core-edge simulations to study plasmas in current and future devices.
  • Reporting research findings in refereed journal articles as well as at internal meetings, workshops and international conferences.

Requirements

PhD in plasma physics or equivalent Knowledge of and/or experience of implementing software engineering best practices. Proven ability to conduct independent research.
