Job Description

Email Marketing Assistant | Nottingham | £25,000 (up to £28,000 with US hours) | Permanent

Looking for your first step into marketing, in a role where you'll own something real from day one?

This is a great opportunity for someone who is keen to build a career in marketing and wants more than just an entry-level role where you're making tea and updating spreadsheets. You'll have genuine ownership from the start, working closely with our recruitment consultants across the UK and US and becoming an important part of how we communicate with our audience.

About Distinct Recruitment

Distinct Recruitment is an independent recruitment business based in Nottingham, with a reputation for doing things a little differently.

We work across a range of specialist markets, supporting businesses and candidates across the UK, as well as growing our presence in the US.

We're a people-first business, and that applies to our own team too. We want people to have the freedom to do their best work, the support to develop their skills and the opportunity to build a career rather than simply do a job.

Our marketing team plays a big part in how we grow the business, and you'll be joining at an exciting time as we continue to develop our marketing activity, automation and customer journeys.

Salary and benefits

  • £25,000 salary, working 9am–5:30pm Monday to Friday.
  • £27,000–£28,000 for working later US-aligned hours three days a week, supporting our US campaigns.
  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Hybrid working
  • Full training and support.
  • Genuine career progression into marketing automation and wider marketing roles.
  • Access to Perkbox with discounts and freebies.
  • Free snacks, fresh fruit, chocolate and unlimited 200 Degrees coffee.
  • Private Bupa healthcare, with individual and family options.
  • Three paid volunteer/charity days per year.

The role

You'll be involved in every stage of an email campaign, from the initial brief through to build, testing and deployment.

You'll work closely with our recruitment consultants to understand what they're trying to achieve and turn their ideas into effective, engaging email campaigns.

You will

  • Take briefs from our consultants and turn them into finished mailers, handling the build, testing and sending.
  • Write engaging email copy, including subject lines, body copy and calls to action.
  • Design, build and maintain automated nurture workflows and triggered email journeys.
  • Manage and maintain our email marketing platform, keeping campaigns, lists and workflows organised and up to date.
  • Test emails across different devices and platforms before they're sent.
  • Monitor campaign performance and use the results to suggest improvements.
  • Help segment audiences and ensure the right messages reach the right people.
  • Work with the wider marketing team on campaigns, content and wider marketing activity.
  • Look for opportunities to improve our processes, automation and customer journeys.
  • Keep up to date with email marketing best practice and new ideas.

What we're looking for

You don't need to have years of marketing experience. This role would suit someone who is at the beginning of their marketing career and is keen to learn.

You might have a marketing qualification, a degree, some work experience or simply a genuine interest in marketing and digital communications.

We're looking for someone who

  • Has excellent written English and enjoys writing.
  • Is highly organised and has a strong eye for detail.
  • Is comfortable working across multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Is curious about how things work and enjoys learning new systems.
  • Has an interest in email marketing, automation and digital marketing.
  • Can take a brief, ask the right questions and turn it into something great.
  • Is confident communicating with different people across the business.
  • Isn't afraid to get stuck in and take ownership.

Experience with an email marketing platform such as HubSpot, Mailchimp, Salesforce Marketing Cloud or similar would be useful, but it isn't essential. What's more important is your ability to learn and your enthusiasm for developing a career in marketing.
