Job Description

Project Detailer / Specification Writer

Division 8 – Doors, Frames & Hardware

About the Role

We’re looking for a Project Detailer / Specification Writer who takes pride in precision, problem-solving, and building great projects the right way. This is a high-impact role that sits at the heart of our operations—working closely with Sales, Estimating, and Project Management to transform awarded projects into fully coordinated, accurate, and buildable door, frame, and hardware packages.

Our company partners with design-build contractors on commercial construction projects, and this role plays a critical part in their success. You’ll help create and refine hardware sets, produce detailed schedules and shop drawings, and ensure every project is code-compliant, accurate, and thoughtfully engineered before it ever reaches the field.

If you enjoy diving into drawings, solving technical puzzles, coordinating details, and owning the quality of your work, this role offers both challenge and long-term growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Produce accurate and timely shop drawings, schedules, and specifications for doors, frames, and hardware
  • Translate contract documents and project requirements into clear, buildable, and coordinated detailing packages
  • Ensure quoted materials fully match the project scope and design intent
  • Research, verify, and validate products, pricing, and specifications to ensure accuracy and budget alignment
  • Utilize manufacturer cut sheets and technical data to support DFH product selections
  • Review submittals, schedules, and specifications to support client and project expectations
  • Analyze and refine project details throughout the approval and submittal process
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Estimating, and Project Management to solve problems before they reach the field
  • Maintain a high standard of quality, accuracy, and constructability across all assigned projects
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support team and company success

What We’re Looking For

  • Division 8 experience is required (Doors, Frames & Hardware)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Detail-oriented with a natural instinct for catching issues before they become problems
  • Confident working both independently and as part of a team
  • A proactive, “go-getter” mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills
  • Comfortable working with multiple software systems and eager to learn new tools
  • Experience handling projects of varying size and complexity
  • Brings and lives our core values: Integrity, Commitment, Trust, Teamwork, and Accountability

Why This Role Matters

Your work directly impacts project success, field efficiency, and customer satisfaction. You’re not just detailing doors and hardware—you’re helping ensure projects run smoother, installs go cleaner, and clients trust us with their next job.
