Onsite: 2-3 days a week
Seeking £45,000 - £50,000 but negotiable
About the role
As Software Developer, you build and maintain the web applications and backend services behind Ace Aquatec’s digital platform, working across the stack from Python-based services to the interfaces our customers and field teams use.
You report to the Head of Software and work closely with Front End Developers on integrating user-facing elements with server-side logic, and with the wider engineering team on the platforms our AI/ML models and IoT devices depend on.
This is a broad, hands-on development role in a small team you’ll work across the full software development lifecycle and see your work reach production quickly.
What you’ll be doing
- Design, develop and deploy robust, scalable web applications and services using Python and related frameworks.
- Write clean, efficient, well-documented code that meets the team’s engineering standards.
- Collaborate with Front End Developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic and APIs.
- Test and debug thoroughly to ensure the quality and reliability of what you build.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues raised by the team or by Customer Experience & Operations.
- Maintain and support existing applications, including performance optimisation.
- Contribute ideas on architecture, tooling and process as the engineering team grows.
- Stay current with software engineering practice relevant to our platform.
You’ll ideally have
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong understanding of Python and common frameworks (e.g. Django, Flask).
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) sufficient to work across the stack.
- Basic knowledge of database systems and SQL.
- Proficient with version control (Git) and modern development workflows.
It would be great if you also have
- Knowledge of AI/ML for computer vision or data analytics.
- Experience with cloud computing and databases.
- Familiarity with IoT communication protocols (MQTT, HTTP) or edge devices.
- Firmware development experience.
The successful candidate will be
- Versatile, comfortable moving across the stack as needed.
- A persistent problem-solver.
- Collaborative and communicative with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Flexible and willing to adapt priorities as the team’s needs change.
What we offer
- Competitive salary, based on experience
- 30 days annual leave (including bank holidays)
- Death in service at 4 x your annual salary
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Enhanced parental leave policies
- Birthday day off
- Paid bereavement and sick leave
- Company salary sacrifice pension scheme
- Cycle to work scheme
- Regular social breakfasts, lunches and team events
